The next six weeks in Market Harborough run from a free model railway weekend at the Indoor Market on 17 and 18 October to the Harborough Fireworks Spectacular on the showground on Wednesday 4 November, a day earlier than most towns hold theirs. In between, Harborough Theatre has a comedy night, the drama society’s autumn play and three screenings from the National Theatre, the Met and the Royal Ballet, and Rockingham Castle runs its Halloween week straight after half term.

  • Farmers’ Market on The Square, Thursday 1 October, 9am to 3pm, The Square, LE16 7PA. Free to browse. The monthly market of local food traders: cheeses, meats and pies, vegan food, flowers and cakes (Harborough Market).
  • Harborough Town v St Albans, FA Cup, Saturday 3 October, 3pm kick-off, Harborough Town Community Football Ground, Northampton Road, LE16 9HF. The club’s standard admission is £18 for adults, £10 for over-65s and £5 for under-16s, and it takes bookings online (Harborough Town FC).

  • October Garden Mornings at Rockingham Castle, Tuesday 6 October, 10am to 2pm, and again on 13 and 20 October. The gardens and the Wild Garden woodland walk open on these three Tuesday mornings, with a coffee unit in the courtyard. Gardens-only tickets are £7.75 for adults, £3.75 for children aged 4 to 15 and £20 for a family (Rockingham Castle).
  • National Theatre Live: The Misanthrope (15), Thursday 8 October, 7pm, Harborough Theatre, Church Square, LE16 7NB. Sandra Oh leads Martin Crimp’s modern version of the Molière play. It runs 1 hour 46 minutes with no interval, and tickets are sold through Harborough Cinema (Harborough Theatre).
  • Harborough Jazz: Steve Waterman’s Latin Jazz Quartet, Sunday 11 October, The Three Swans Hotel, 21 High Street, LE16 7NJ. The jazz club’s monthly Sunday lunchtime gig, held on the second Sunday of each month (Harborough Jazz).

  • Railex ‘26, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, 8am to 5pm, Harborough Indoor Market, Northampton Road, LE16 9HB. Free. A weekend of modern trains, with exhibitions, layouts and traders (Harborough Market).
  • The Met: Macbeth, Tuesday 20 October, 6pm, Harborough Theatre. Verdi’s opera, recorded live and sung in Italian with English subtitles. It runs 3 hours 30 minutes with an interval (Harborough Theatre).
  • HA HA Harborough Comedy Night, Saturday 24 October, 8pm, Harborough Theatre. Nick Doody headlines. Tickets are £10 plus a £1 booking fee (WeGotTickets; Harborough Theatre).
  • In Brass and Voice, Saturday 24 October, 7.30pm, Octagonal Hall, Welland Park Academy, 48 Welland Park Road, LE16 9DR. The Harborough Singers share the bill with the Harborough Band, just promoted to Division 1. Tickets £15, £5 for under 18s (Harborough Singers).
  • Halloween Fun at Rockingham Castle, Wednesday 28 to Saturday 31 October, grounds from 11am, last entry 3pm, site closes 4pm, LE16 8TH. A carved pumpkin trail and crossword through the castle, pumpkin rolling in the grounds and a goody bag for every child. Castle and gardens tickets are £19.25 for adults, £13 for children aged 4 to 15 and £49.90 for a family (Rockingham Castle).
  • Live Music Fridays: Chris Cave, Friday 30 October, 6.30pm, The Three Swans Hotel. The hotel’s live music night on the last Friday of each month (The Three Swans).
  • Artisan Fair on The Square, Saturday 31 October, 9am to 4pm, The Square. The monthly fair of local arts, crafts and food (Harborough Market).
  • The Royal Ballet: Manon, Saturday 31 October, 7pm, Harborough Theatre. Kenneth MacMillan’s ballet, recorded live, 3 hours 10 minutes with two intervals (Harborough Theatre).

November

  • The Southbury Child, Tuesday 3 to Saturday 7 November, 7.30pm nightly plus a 2.30pm Saturday matinee, Harborough Theatre. Market Harborough Drama Society stages Stephen Beresford’s dark comedy about a Devon priest. Tickets £16, on sale from 6 October at the theatre box office (Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 12.30pm) or online (Harborough Theatre).
  • Harborough Fireworks Spectacular, Wednesday 4 November, Harborough Showground, Gallow Field Road, LE16 7QB. Gates and funfair open at 4pm, the kids’ display is at 6pm, the bonfire is lit at 7pm and the main show runs from 7.30pm to 8pm. Adults £12, children aged 5 to 15 £6 (Harborough Fireworks).   • Farmers’ Market on The Square, Thursday 5 November, 9am to 3pm (Harborough Market).
  • Lutterworth Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service, Sunday 8 November, 10.30am to 12.30pm, Lutterworth town centre.   • Classical Concert and Cream Tea: Eira Lynn Jones, Sunday 8 November, 3pm to 5pm, Launde Abbey, Launde Road, LE7 9XB. An hour of harp music in the medieval chapel, then the abbey’s cream tea. £22, or £17 for the concert only, booked on 01572 717254 (Launde Abbey).
  • The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town, Sunday 8 November, 7.30pm, Harborough Theatre. Hambledon Productions’ stage version of the Spike Milligan and Ronnie Barker comedy (Harborough Theatre).
