Broughton Alive's Christmas Fayre is back on Saturday 5 December 2026, and the Santa Dash and Dawdle is on Sunday 6 December. Roads close on both days.

Broughton Astley’s Christmas Fayre is on Saturday 5 December 2026, and the Santa Dash and Dawdle follows on Sunday 6 December. Both are run by Broughton Alive, the village’s volunteer events group, which says on its own site that “the Christmas Fayre will be back on 5th December 2026”. Harborough District Council lists the fayre in its festive diary for the same date. (Broughton Alive, Christmas Fayre; Harborough District Council, 12 October 2026)

The quick answer

  • Christmas Fayre: Saturday 5 December 2026, Broughton Astley. Confirmed by the organiser.
  • Santa Dash and Dawdle: Sunday 6 December 2026, run with Squirrels Running Group.
  • Road closures: a temporary order covers “various roads” in the village on 5 and 6 December. The street list is not yet published.
  • Not yet published: start and finish times, the stall and entertainment line-up, and how to enter the Santa Dash.
  • When the detail comes: the county council says a press release will confirm the closures about two weeks before, so around 21 November.

Christmas Fayre, Saturday 5 December

Broughton Alive has run the village’s Summer Carnival, Party in the Park, Christmas Fayre and Santa Dash and Dawdle since 2004, and describes itself as a volunteer group that organises community events and funds projects for Broughton Astley residents. Its Christmas Fayre page carries one line for this year: the date. There are no times, stalls or line-up yet. (Broughton Alive)

We will add the programme here when Broughton Alive or the parish council publishes it.

Santa Dash and Dawdle, Sunday 6 December

Broughton Alive and Squirrels Running Group “invite you to join us for the return of the Santa Dash and Dawdle, on Sunday 6th December 2026”, and ask runners to “put on your Santa suit, and run, jog, dash or dawdle.” Neither has published the start time, the route, the distances or an entry link yet. Road closures

Broughton Astley Parish Council posted Leicestershire County Council’s advance notice on 1 October. It says a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order “is to be made for the following location: VARIOUS ROADS, BROUGHTON ASTLEY between 05/12/2026 and 06/12/2026”, so that Broughton Alive can “safely facilitate their annual Christmas festivities”, and that the order will include temporary road closures lasting no more than two days. (Broughton Astley Parish Council, 1 October 2026; advance notice PDF)

The notice does not name the streets. Last year’s gives the likely shape: the 2025 order closed Main Street and Green Road on 6 and 7 December 2025 for the Christmas Fayre and the Santa Dash and Dawdle. This year’s says “various roads”, which may mean more than those two. (Broughton Astley Parish Council, 30 October 2025)

If you live on Main Street or Green Road, expect restricted access on both days until the closure hours are published. Our roadworks and travel page will carry the street list when the order is made.

Parking

Neither the organiser nor the parish council has published any event parking. Harborough District Council’s car park on Orchard Road, Broughton Astley, is one of its ten rural car parks, which are free at all times; it is small, and it may be inside the closure, which is not yet mapped. Details of every council car park are on our parking in Market Harborough page. With village roads shut, walking in is the sensible plan for anyone who lives in Broughton Astley.

The same weekend nearby

  • Friday 4 December: the Market Harborough Christmas Fayre, 4.30pm to 9.15pm, free.
  • Saturday 5 December: Small Business Saturday, which the council’s festive diary asks shoppers to mark by supporting local businesses.
  • Lutterworth’s switch-on, with Santa’s grotto and fireworks, is the week before, on Friday 27 November: see our Lutterworth Christmas lights page.

Every grotto we have found across the district is on our Santa’s grotto page.
