Late Night Shopping is Friday 27 November 2026, about 6pm to 8pm, with shops open late, bands and free parking. Roads stay open. Not the 4 December Fayre.
Market Harborough’s Late Night Shopping is on Friday 27 November 2026, across the town centre. Shops stay open into the evening, many with offers and entertainment, and bands play around the town. The organisers say the roads stay open as normal and parking is free in all car parks. It is a separate event from the Christmas Fayre a week later, on Friday 4 December.
Everything here comes from the organisers’ own posts and the district council’s events listing, read on 25 October 2026.
The quick answer
- When: Friday 27 November 2026. The council’s Visit Harborough listing gives 6pm to 8pm; the organisers say “many shops open till late” and publish each shop’s hours on their map.
- Where: throughout Market Harborough town centre. There is no single venue.
- Cost: free. It is a shopping evening, with no tickets.
- Roads: open as normal. No closures are planned, the organisers say.
- Parking: the organisers say it is free in all car parks. Council car parks stop charging at 6pm anyway.
- Not the fayre: the stalls, funfair and Santa’s grotto are at the Christmas Fayre on Friday 4 December.
What the organisers have announced
The event is run by local traders under the name Market Harborough Late Night Shopping, which posts on Instagram as @mhlatenightshopping. Its posts of 19 September and 8 October call this the event’s third year and describe it as “solely based on shopping & support the local Independent & chain shops”. They promise:
- shops open late, “many providing discounts, offers & entertainment on the night”;
- “bands scattered around the town”;
- roads “open as normal with free parking in all car parks”;
- an official map and list of the shops that have confirmed they will open, so you can plan a route.
A post on 12 October adds that the evening covers “independents, familiar favourites” and gifts from “food, books, homeware and more”. The map itself is an image on the organisers’ Instagram, so check there for which shops are taking part and how late each one stays open. (Market Harborough Late Night Shopping on Instagram)
The district council’s events site lists it as “Fab Friday”, 6pm to 8pm, with “instore promotions and offers, free fizz and live music and entertainment”, and points to a digital map or a printed copy you can pick up in town. (Visit Harborough, Market Harborough Late Night Shopping)
It is not the Christmas Fayre
The organisers stress this themselves: the Late Night Shopping “is NOT to be confused with the popular Market Harborough Christmas Fayre on Friday 4th of December”. The two are on consecutive Fridays.
| Late Night Shopping | Christmas Fayre | |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Friday 27 November | Friday 4 December |
| Time | 6pm to 8pm (council listing) | 4.30pm to 9.15pm |
| What it is | Shops open late, offers, bands | Stalls, stilt walkers, live music, Santa's grotto, funfair |
| Roads | Open as normal | No closure published yet |
The fayre’s details are on our Christmas Fayre page.
Black Friday, shopped locally
Last year’s evening was on Friday 28 November 2025, Black Friday, and the organisers’ thank-you post afterwards said “doing this on Black Friday and it being so busy” showed the strength of the town’s support. Friday 27 November 2026 is Black Friday again. The traders also held a summer late night on Thursday 2 July this year, from 5pm. (Market Harborough Late Night Shopping on Instagram)
Parking
- The organisers say parking is free in all car parks on the night.
- Harborough District Council’s own car parks charge from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, so from 6pm a council car park costs nothing on any weekday evening. If you arrive before 6pm, check the machine before you assume the evening is free.
- The Commons car park (LE16 9DB) is the biggest short stay car park near the shops.
Every car park, with tariffs and spaces, is on our parking in Market Harborough page.
Getting there and road closures
No road closures are planned: the organisers say roads stay open as normal. Roadworks elsewhere in the town can still affect the drive in, so check our roadworks and travel page before you set off.
The same week
- Friday 27 November: Lutterworth’s Christmas lights switch-on, from 6pm, with the A426 closed from 5pm to 9pm. See our Lutterworth switch-on page.

- Saturday 28 November: the Artisan Fair on The Square, and the start of Christmas On The Farm at Windmill Farm Park, Kibworth. Every grotto is on our Santa’s grotto page.
Market Harborough’s own lights go on the Saturday before, 21 November; see our switch-on page. Everything else is on what’s on in Market Harborough.
