Lutterworth Town Council has set Friday 27 November 2026 for the switch-on. Santa's grotto, funfair, town band and fireworks, with the A426 closed 5pm to 9pm.
Lutterworth’s Christmas Lights Switch On is Friday 27 November 2026, and the town council has already put the date on its own event page, updated on 3 September 2026. That is earlier notice than most towns in the district manage. (Lutterworth Town Council)
It is the district’s fireworks-and-grotto version of a switch-on rather than a stage show. The council’s own description lists Santa’s grotto, a fun fair, mulled wine, the Lutterworth Town Band, a hog roast, stage entertainment, and a fireworks display after the lights go on.
What time the lights come on
The council says the switch-on itself is usually at 7.30pm, and it uses that word: “usually”. So treat 7.30pm as the shape of the evening rather than a fixed time until the council confirms this year’s running order. The fireworks follow the switch-on.
What is fixed is the closure window, and it tells you when the event effectively starts and ends: 5pm to 9pm.
Road closures
The town council publishes the closure in full, which is more than most organisers do.
- The A426 through Lutterworth closes to through traffic from 5pm to 9pm
- The northern closure point is the junction with Bill Crane Way
- The southern closure point is the junction with St Johns Business Park
- Local traffic is diverted around the town centre
- There is no vehicle movement between the George Street junction with Leicester Road and Misterton Way
If you are driving through Lutterworth on that Friday evening rather than to it, the M1 or the A5 is the sane choice. Our roadworks and travel page tracks anything else live on the network.
Parking
Council car parks charge only between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday, so if you arrive after 6pm you park for nothing. Lutterworth’s four pay and display car parks are Station Road (LE17 4AP, 59 spaces), Chapel Street (LE17 4EU, 34), George Street (LE17 4EG, 29) and Church Close (LE17 4SJ, 15). That is 137 paid spaces in total for an event that fills the town centre, so arriving at 6.55pm for a 7.30pm switch-on is optimistic.
Four more Lutterworth car parks are free at all times: the Country Park at Brookfield Way, Dunley Way Football Club (LE17 4NP), Lutterworth Sports Centre on Coventry Road (LE17 4RB) and the Wycliffe Memorial car park. Full detail is on our parking page, which covers the whole district and not just the town it is named after.
Read the closure notice and the car park list together before you pick one. The council’s wording puts George Street inside the no-movement area, so if you park there, plan on leaving after 9pm rather than during the event. If in doubt, ring the town council on 01455 550225 and ask which car parks stay reachable.
The Market Square works
Harborough District Council’s £1m Lutterworth Market Square scheme has been hanging over the town centre. In July 2025 the council pushed the start back, and said explicitly that one reason was “to ensure that the popular Lutterworth Christmas Lights Switch On event can proceed without disruption”, aiming to start work “in the new year”. (Harborough District Council, 15 July 2025)
The council has published no further timeline since. If the works have started by late November, the layout of stalls and the grotto could change. The date and the road closure are the council’s; the site layout is not yet published for 2026.
Still to be confirmed
- The exact switch-on time, stated only as “usually 7.30pm”
- Who switches the lights on, and the stage line-up
- Where the grotto and the funfair are sited, given the Market Square scheme
- The statutory temporary traffic order for the A426 closure, which had not been published on the public notice portal for the LE17 area as of 4 September 2026
Lutterworth Town Council takes offers of help on 01455 550225 or at events@lutterworth-tc.gov.uk. We will update this page as the running order is published.
